Andrea and Lori

I was recently in Ottawa at the Wallspace Gallery in Westboro for the opening of Lori Richards and Andrea Piller's show Home/Body.  The whole feeling of it made me feel "Ahhhhhhhhh".  Restful, glowing, calming... the way home should feel.

Paintings and sculpture, created by friends of thirty years in separate studios and separate counties, harmonious to the point of eeriness.  Colours, glazes and textures bouncing of off each other, entwined in one feeling.  Beautifully done, girls!

Back home now, I have been inspired to venture into my studio, dust off some cobwebs and tentatively go forward into my own art adventures.

If you are in the Ottawa area, I urge you to take the time to surround yourself by this magical collaboration.  The show is on until June 10, 2012. Go!

Where to next? That's the issue I have to focus on every time I come back from a the last work trip.  My short but sweet trip to California was sprinkled with some terrific interaction with retailers, professors, teachers and artists.  This definitely helped lift me partially out of the dank and dreary creativity rut I've been in for what feels like forever. 

So what's next? Something that always gets me going creatively, mostly because it's for Tri-Art and not for me personally (why is it that the personal art is the toughest?).  We are gearing up for NAMTA 2012, this year, the show is in Orlando.  I'm hoping to bring some fresh colour and sun-inspired light into our booth.  Working with our team to put together an exciting booth and some painted eye candy is something I look forward to every year.

Wednesday is paint day for the Tri-Art girls, and we're going to head into my studio to clear out some of those winter cobwebs.  Yay!

As cozy as I am up here in the not-quite-chilly-yet Canadian winter, I imagine that a little California sun will not be unwelcome come midwinter!

I'll be flogging paint and books at the CAA Centenial Conference in Los Angeles from Feb. 22-24th, 2012 in the Jack Richeson Booth.  It's always an interesting and stimulating event, and as I have not been for several years, I look forward to seeing what new great art books are out there...and will hopefully have time to sit in on some of the sessions too!

I do realize that this is a stagnant blog....really.  In my own defence I must also add that blogging is not really my "thing".  A proper website will eventually come about once several things happen:

1. I make artwork that is not complete rubbish.
2. I have something of note to post (i.e. a show or something...)
3. I design (or better yet, have someone talented at that sort of thing design for me) a slick but lush website.

As none of those things are currently happening, this blog will have to remain as it is.  Dull, but taking up cyber space in spite of that (like oh too many things already are).

If you are in need of looking at pretty pictures that may or may not feature paint, I recommend "liking" Tri-Art on facebook.  My colleague is always posting lovely and inspiring images.
